Before you buy, anywhere

Reading gold

Three numbers cover almost everything in a jewellery shop. Learn them once and no counter in the country can confuse you.

91622 karat gold

Of one thousand parts, 916 are gold. The standard for Indian jewellery, and the number stamped on the piece itself.

75018 karat gold

750 parts gold. Harder wearing, and the usual choice where diamonds must be held firmly.

925Sterling silver

925 parts silver. The mark to look for on lamps, idols and pooja articles.

A hallmarked piece carries three marks: the BIS triangle, the fineness number above, and a six character HUID unique to that one piece. The free BIS CARE app checks any HUID. A house that welcomes the check is telling you something.

A quiet way in

Saving toward a piece

Many families put a little aside each month toward a wedding set or a festival purchase. Ask at the counter how the house can hold that plan with you, and what suits your timeline.

Since 1925

The house

A century old, and built for the way gold is actually chosen: slowly, together. Two floors, a sofa under the chandelier for everyone who came along, and a counter you sit at rather than lean over.

  • Very good collection of jewellery and antique jewellery. New and modern designs, and at a premium location in Bangalore.Neha Gandhi, Google review
  • Good collection, affordable prices, good rapport of the owner with customers.Murali Mohan, Google review
